Yesterday at the workshop, the postwoman brought me a parcel I hadn’t ordered… So I opened it with appetite of course, all the more so as on the back I discovered a stamp representing a Japanese carp! 🙂
Inside, I see a familiar silhouette, delicately covered in white self-paper… KOÏ! Laurent Barrera’s new book for my dearest and dearest!
Very – Beautiful – Book! Numbered and autographed…
Beautiful paper, magnificent shots of koi carp photographed over the last few years in France and Japan. Laurent Barrera draws his inspiration from nature, from unique and unrepeatable moments. Another special feature of this artist photographer and of this book is that some of the shots have been reworked with watercolors and oils.
The whole book is Japanese-inspired, punctuated by the seasons and embellished with splendid calligraphy by Keiko Yokoyama and poetic haiku by Mélanie Bosc.
In Japan, Do is the way, a practice that is both spiritual and bodily, and that allows us to blossom. Shoho is the way of writing, and is based on the traditional art of calligraphy. Admiring the book’s energetic calligraphy, one has the sensation of seeing carp moving at the bottom of a pond…
The haiku is a short Japanese poem representing a concentrated observation of time and nature. It is based on suggestion, and celebrates the fleeting nature of things and the sensations they arouse. A haiku generally relates to a season, and is made up of 17 syllables divided into three verses following the precise 5/7/5 syllable pattern.
